Since I am still babysitting Raphael's blog, today I have decided to post half of an article on my blog and the other half on his !
As I was mentioning on my blog, I have been meaning to write an article about those 10 UK dotcoms for a while now, and one of the reason being that I found it hard to understand how come the UK was still behind France when it comes to web 2.0 businesses... You'll find out some answers as well as the first 5 dotcoms to watch my blog (the first five in my order of preference !) and the following 5 are listed below :
TOUCHLOCAL
In a way Touch Local is the equivalent of Les Pages Jaunes but in a web 2.0 version. It's also a bit similar in a way to the site TrustedPlace which I mention on my blog, with the exception that the site gets its remuneratio from the companies present on the directory. Its a business directory with word of mouth from consumers. Interesting !
OnOneMap
This website is also a web-base property search site (yes, property is a BIG business in the UK !). But this one is, as you can guess from its name, based a map-based search engine. I like this one a bit less but that's me...
MINDCANDY
That's the oldest of the 10 dotcoms to watch according to The Guardian. Its founder and chief executive Michael Smith is 35 (I still have 4 years to do something with my life... Well 3 and a bit !). What is it ? "Mind Candy is an interactive entertainment company that specialises in cross media, multi-player games".
ZUBKA
I have seen quite a few of those web 2.0 recruitment companies in France but it's still always very interesting and "new": it's all about referring your friends, colleagues for a job and getting a slice of the cake for it. "Join Zubka as a referrer and get paid a substantial financial reward to introduce your friends and colleagues to a new job".
GARLIK
And finally, with its weird name, it's the one website that could turn out to be very useful with helping you to keep track of your online information.
You want to know about the other 5 dotcoms to watch out for ? They're here !
